The Bare Necessities

Bare Necessities

< One of the best movie songs EVER!

Everyone wants to be fancy and everyone wants to be complex. The thing is, when people try to be fancy, they most likely have completely skipped over the basics. You don’t try to play 18 without spending a ton of time at the driving range and on the putting green. Health and fitness is no different. We all know the chick who wants to stop resembling a teletubbie and her master plan of weeks packed with hours on the elliptical and “meals” consisting of a stalk of celery and 4 baby carrots.

If you’re just trying to get into shape, following these basics will help you. Guaranteed. Or if your life is like mine has been for the past few months, long days with absolutely no set schedule but a million things to do. These will help you too. Consider them the putting green of health. Once adhering to them has become second nature you can move onto playing a real round. (more…)

Deuces 2010, Deuces

deuces

It’s that time of year again. Everywhere you look online you’re seeing tons “A Look Back on 2010″ articles and even more “My 2011 New Years Resolutions”. Well I’m an un-original and uncreative bastard so here is part one, my look back on 2010.

You’re probably saying to yourself “Does this dude know it’s already 2011??” And the answer yes, yes I do know. I also don’t really care since most other aspects of my life are premature (self-deprecating humor…ZING!) (more…)

Mike’s Bucket List

Snooki Punched

“There is no reconciliation that will put me in my place, and there is no time like the present to drink these draining seconds.” Savior – Rise Against

I never watched “The Bucket List”, but it’s pretty easy to understand what it’s all about. Essentially, don’t sit around and let life pass you by. It’s too easy to lay in bed everyday and count the ceiling tiles, or sit at your desk all day and spend hours cursing TMZ for beaver shots and nip slips. But none of that is rewarding, at all. After reading almost everything Tim Ferris has written, it’s easy to agree 100% with the way he frames the importance of time and attention (If I could find the exact article I’d link to it, but I can’t remember which one I found it in for the life of me). What it all boils down to is this 1) Time is finite. You only get so much until you fall over dead at some point in the future. 2) Every choice you make comes down to how you want to spend your time. 3) If people treated their time like currency, more people would be happier with their lives.

4 Ways to Get in the Drivers Seat

“Lately I’m beginning to find that I should be the one behind the wheel” –Drive by Incubus

Talking the talk is easy. Walking the walk, not so much. I’ve only come across a few people who actually have the balls to stop just talking or thinking about their goals and actually took the steps that put them on the right path. Hell, sometimes it was just a path. The key point is they took action. Nobody wants to fail, that’s pretty damn obvious. Because of the fear most people will stick to creating the “perfect plan”. Why? Because it’s easier to think about doing something and have no risk of failure. I’ve yet to meet someone who fails at thinking, even though I do know of a few who are pretty damn close. There is nothing wrong with planning, but it gets to certain point where you just need to pull the fucking trigger and make it happen.

But where do you start? Here are the 4 things that I’ve found to be incredibly useful in the last year:
